Key Largo Weekend
We'll meet in key Largo on Friday, doesn't matter what time you get in as long as you get there. You'll be staying in one of two duplexes. Directions to follow. Each sleeps 6, two bedrooms each, full kitchen and bath. Tile floors and nicely furnished . Saturday morning, after breakfast, You'll be diving the reef on the ocean side of Hawks Channel with Capt Tom. The dive boat can only take 6 divers at a time. Here's the set-up with the dive boat. No tanks are needed just fins & mask, and just 10 lbs. of weights, (weights provided) as there is an air-compressor on board with four 150' air lines. Everyone will get to dive each time we go out. The water is about 15 to 20 feet deep so staying down for a few hours is no problem and YES we will be diving naked !
Now a little bit about Capt. Tom. He is one of the very few that is licensed to catch and remove fish and other sea life from the reefs. He does this by using a 6' round hand net under water. I've tried it and can't catch anything. Sometimes he just uses his bare hands to catch fish. Tried that to, didn't work for me either. The man is simply amazing! Once the fish and other samples are collected and everyone has had there full of diving, it's back to the shop. Their the fish are separated into different tanks (over 50 or more). At his shop you'll see a wide collection of under water critters, seahorses to octopus and everything in between. After a brief quarantine period they are shipped out to aquariums and pet stores around the country. If you've ever wondered where all those fish come from while at an aquarium , now you'll know.. Capt. Tom is a natural marine biologist, very knowledgeable of sea life and there habitat. You can learn a lot from Capt. Tom. Okay back to our trip.
For those that are not diving, snorkeling is always good in the keys or just come for a fun weekend out on the water.
This is a BYOB and a snack to share would be nice, Friday night will be a 'Get Acquainted Party'. Saturday we can do two dives, morning and afternoon. Saturday night we'll be dining out at one of the local eateries or a BBQ at Toms place.
Sunday, we can do a morning dive, if your up to it, then it's back to reality and the drive home.
The cost for this unique weekend is just;
$150.00 per person and that includes;
2 nights lodging and dive boat !!!
( want your own room, the cost would be 280.00 per person for the weekend, including the boat)
