This will be a one day trip on the beautiful Homosassa River visiting our friends, the Manatees. Between Thanksgiving and Easter is the best time to snorkel with these cuties. The water temp in the springs is a constant 72 to 75 year round, it may feel chilly at first but it is comfortable. When the Gulf begins to worm up (usually about Easter) they begin to leave the springs and head out to to the bay and coastal waters ( most of them). Miss this one and you'll have to wait till next winter (in reality the manatees are in the river all year just in smaller numbers during the summer ). We can car pool from PL or you can meet us at Emily's Restaurant in Homosassa for a great breakfast. The marina is a short drive from Emily's, where we will board our boat and head up the river to the springs. You can snorkel and pet these cuties, chasing, feeding or any harassment of Manatees is prohibited. Docking for lunch will be at the 'Freezer', it's a local water front Bar/restaurant that once was a ice house and freezer for local fisherman, now a great seafood local place. After lunch we'll take a lazy ride down the river to the Gulf Of Mexico, heading back, we'll stop at Monkey Island (yes it's an Island with only monkeys on it) You can expect to have up to 5 to 6 hours on the river. Planning to be back at the dock about 4:00ish. At the dock is a great local Pub with great food, ice cold beer and a wonderful way to end a day on the water !
Bring your own gear for snorkeling, wet suite if you need one, towel, and your drink of choice.
Cost is only $30.00 per person and must be paid in advance. Price includes boat & fuel for the day.
