Suwannee River Houseboat Trip

Everyone in America has heard of this river but few know where it is. Even fewer have ever been on it. The Suwannee River is truly a time capsule, wide and lazy. There is no commercial boat traffic, no industry, no housing developments or condo's!! Just a few fish camps along the banks. This is one of the few rivers in the world that are created entirely by natural springs. No other rivers lead into the Suwannee. It starts in a swamp in Georgia and ends in a swamp as it flows into the Gulf of Mexico preventing any commercial boat traffic. The wildlife is just unbelievable, Bald eagles, black bears and the largest alligators I've ever seen (some over 18'). The fishing is great as well, bring your poll or cast net  if you like, but leave your phones home on this one, there is no service on the Suwannee River.

We'll be meeting in the town of Suwannee, Florida. For those local, that want to follow or carpool I'll  be leaving Paradise Lakes (Lutz) about 8:00 A.M. Friday.  Plan to be at the marina no latter then noon so we have time to load the boat( I'll give you all the boarding plans/details ). The houseboats are fully equipped with range/oven, full refrigerator, BBQ, dishes, generator, VHS radio DVD player (bring some CDs )and full bath. It really is a small house on the water and yes everyone will have a turn at the helm, your captain guarantees it. Just bring your personal items, swim suit and snorkel gear. This is BYOB, bring your own mixers and a snack to share would be nice. Please don't over pack, space is limited, you'll find that a couple of towels a changes of clothes, light jacket, pillow, light blanket and bug spray will do just fine. Come see a part of America few have seen.

 Food is not included

In order to keep the cost down, each couple will provide one dinner meal or lunch for everyone (4 couples) you can pick which meals to provide

There maybe an additional charge for fuel, due to the increases in the fuel cost (I am including $150.00 for the cost of fuel, anything additional we'll split)

Fri We must leave the dock before 3:00. if you're going to be latter then this, call me or the marina, we'll have a water taxi for you. Once out on the Suwannee River we'll be heading up stream to our first anchorage for the night. The River is wide and slow and and anchoring anywhere we like is no-problem.

Sat. Head further up river about 6 hours we'll dock at Manatee Springs. You can snorkel in the springs and perhaps see a few Manatees, best time of the year for manatees is from Oct to March.  Water is 72 to 75 Deg. so wetsuit maybe needed during the colder months but in the summer it feels great! Permitting enough time we may head up river to Fanny Springs, another fun swimming hole. Then we'll find a nice little place to anchor for the night.

.Sunday, After a lazy morning, it's back to the marina. The journey will be with the current so we'll time it be back about 4:00 .

Over night trip (Sat.-Sunday) $350.00 per cpl.
